Education Grants

Education Grants Have helped Millions With Their Education

With the high cost of education, grants have become the one way for millions to get the training and schooling they need to better their lives. The high cost of education keeps many people from continuing their schooling after high school. Without educational grants only the wealthiest of families would be able to afford college and graduate schools.

The average cost of a year of private college with books, tuition, room and board is just over 26,000. A year of the same expenses in a public university would be about half this amount.

There are education grants available to those of all economic levels, you just need to know where to look. Education-Grants.org is a source for those who need help with their grant search.

Grants come in different categories and there are different sources for funding. Common categories for funding are:

  • State and Federal Funding
  • Private and Public Organization
  • Universities and colleges

Education grants are not to be confused with Scholarships or Educational Loans. Grants do not have to be paid back while scholarships and student loans do.

Government Education Grants

When starting to look for education grants the Federal Government is the first source people think of. One of the best known of the federal grants for education in the Pell Grant. Since 1972 the Pell Grant has provided funding for million of low income students that other wise may not have been able to receive help from any other source.

Pell grants are available on a year to year basis with funding being determined by the federal government. Pell grants are available based on a family’s income, the more a family makes the lower the grant amount.

Another grant that is to freshmen and sophomores is the Academic Competitiveness Grant or the ACG Grant. Outstanding academic records along with demonstrable leadership and service records are required. The qualifying candidates must be eligible for the Pell Grant also.

For juniors and seniors studying engineering science computer science or mathematics there is the SMART Grant or The National Science And Mathematics Access Grant To Retain Talent Grant. The SMART Grant is a $4000 award and to be eligible the student must also be receiving the Pell grant.

Education Grants For Women

There are a number of grants just for women. These grants are to encourage women to continue their education or go back to school. There is a particular emphasis on grants to minority and/or economically disadvantaged women to help them return to college or pursue a degree.

The American Competes Act was established to federally sponsor STEM (Science Technology Education and Mathematics) education programs and
activities, to be participated in by women, underrepresented minorities, and those in rural areas.

Education Grants For The Military

Grants for the Military are available for enlisted or former members of the Armed Services. There are also aid programs for the spouses and children of Active Army or Navy Service members. They are respectively the Army’s Spouse Education Assistance Program and the Navy Spouse Tuition Aid Program. There is now the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant for children of  service men who died while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan after September 11th.

Nurse and Medical Student Education Grants

With a shortage of Doctors and Nurses all across the country there are federal grants and state funded grants available for students interested in the medical field.

Education Grants For Teachers

The Department of Education at the Federal and State levels administer Educational grants to help with the the cost necessary to become a teacher. Those wishing to become a teacher can receive grants from states and at the local level. States have made provisions to grant money to individuals that will stay in a state or municipally and teach for a number of years after receiving the grant.

Specialty Educational Grants

There are specialty grants for individuals wanting to study just about anything. These grants can come from the Federal Government or just about any business with an interest in your area of study. If you can think of it something to study there are education grants available to study it.
